Company Information
Our client is a prime contractor and major supplier to the UK Ministry of Defence and has developed strong capabilities in mission systems integration in defence, national security and commercial markets. They design, develop and manufacture a range of high technology electronic systems and software at its facilities in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Programme Information:

Our client has been awarded a £750 million Government programme to deliver an IT enabled, transformed Border security capability for the UK.
This involves project/programme management on a very large scale for the design, development and implementation of state of the art secure systems and software. Our client, as prime contractor, is responsible for overseeing the work of 5 major subcontracts and for working alongside and in partnership with the customer to jointly ensure programme success.
This programme will collect and analyse passenger and crew data, provided by carriers (air, sea and rail), in respect of all journeys to and from the UK in advance of their travel.

This will support an intelligence-led approach to operating border controls, by identifying those involved in abuse of UK immigration laws, serious and organised crime and terrorism. Border control agencies include Immigration service, Police service, Serious and Organised Crime Agency Customs and UKvisas.
Environment Management Team (EMT) sits under the Platform Integration (PI) group within the Trusted Borders (TB) program.

The EMT function provides a number of services to the test teams responsible for the Trusted Borders solution, including:
- the creation, maintenance and management of multiple weblogic test environments.
- deployment of in-house developments.
- support deployments into the production systems.

EMT Responsibilities, Skills and Experience:

Profile
The EMT engineer will build and support consistent environments for use by software developers and testers using a matrix of different applications, working to specific designs supplied by the TB Programme System Engineering function. The creation of these environments requires the EMT to work in a thorough and methodical manner using predefined worksheets or checklists, to ensure consistent, successful deployments. He or she will require appropriate skills in operating system, deployment tools, application, scripting and fault diagnosis to achieve this.

An important fault diagnosis skill required is the ability to be able to seek assistance from other staff within the team, other Programme resources or external vendor support teams.

Responsibilities:

Reports to the Environment Management Team Lead
1. Manage individual workload, and support the EMT Lead on issues requiring escalation.
2. Deploy build deliveries from the Clearcase source control system onto Integration and test environments as requested by the Delivery Manager.
3. Quality check the environment after deployment before delivery to the Delivery Test team.
4. Support the Test teams after deployment. Implement work-arounds and/or fixes as required.
5. Interact with the development teams to clarify Special Instructions and configurations.
6. Produce the TB deployment packages for delivery to teams responsible for the TB solution deployment onto the live systems.
7. Support the deployment of the TB solution onto Production and Pre-Production environments.
8. Continuously enhance the deployment solution, to increase automation of the deployment package and minimise manual involvement
9. Evolve the deployment package meet changes and upcoming requirements.
10. Ensure all scripts developed for use in deployment and domain creation are held in an appropriate source controlled environment
11. Complete and maintain deployment and domain setup documentation and ensure this documentation is maintained in an appropriate source controlled environment.

Essential Skills and Experience:

Critical Skills:

1. Weblogic - an in-depth understanding of configuration settings and deployment mechanisms within Weblogic (experienced in creating, maintaining and management of multiple weblogic environments). Knowledge of Weblogic 10, Aqualogic 3 and Portal 10.2.
2. Perl / Python or equivalent Scripting
3. Linux - hands-on experience (minimum one year hands on)

As much of the work involves pre-emptive fault diagnosis, we are looking for someone who will proactively seek out potential issues and resolve these before they impact delivery.
